Welcome message from General Chairman

EPE-PEMC 2008 chairman - prof. Krzysztof ZawirskiOn behalf of the Power Electronics and Motion Control Council, the National Organising Committee and the EPE Association, it is my honour to invite you to the 13th Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference, EPE-PEMC 2008.

In 2008 the Conference is taking place in the city of Poznań the first capital of Poland, a country in Central Europe. Poznań is recognised as a perfect venue for conferences and congresses thanks to a range of modern high-quality facilities including hotels of all categories, restaurants, cafés, and cultural and congress centres. Poznań can boast 23 universities and institutions of higher education and ranks among the leading scientific and research centres in Europe. Over 120,000 students give the city a distinctive character.

The advantage of Poznań as a conference venue is also its perfect location at the intersection of major European transport routes. The modern airport Ławica offers scheduled flights to a wide range of European destinations such as Copenhagen, Vienna, Cologne/Bonn, Frankfurt, Munich, London, Paris and Warsaw. Poznań is also the hub of a vast rail network and provides convenient and regular passenger services on the route from Berlin, Cologne and Brussels via Warsaw to Moscow and Kiev in the east as well as on the north-south route from Stockholm and Copenhagen via Gdańsk and Szczecin to Prague and Budapest.

The EPE-PEMC Conference traditionally brings together outstanding professionals in the field of Power Electronics and Motion Control from the leading research centres around the world. We are determined to keep this good tradition alive and we are convinced that the conference in Poznań will create a unique opportunity to renew and strengthen our professional contacts. We also hope that it will highlight the multidisciplinary character of Power Electronics and Motion Control and show its vast scope of applications. We would like to encourage our colleagues, industrial engineers, to participate in the conference because they can provide us with insights into the practical importance of research results and give us inspiration for novel ideas and research concepts.

Several cultural and tourist events will be organised during the conference. We believe it is a good way of getting you and your accompanying persons acquainted with the region of Wielkopolska and its capital city Poznań.

I am looking forward to seeing you in Poznań.
General Chairman

Krzysztof Zawirski

Welcome message from The Rector

PUT rector - prof. Adam HamrolI am very honoured to invite you to Poznań the first capital of Poland, where the conference Power Electronics and Motion Control - EPE-PEMC will be held at the Poznań University of Technology.

Higher education has a long tradition in Poznań. Poznań University of Technology (PUT) provides higher technical education among eight public universities and fifteen private universities and schools of higher education. Its 85th anniversary was celebrated in 2004. Presently, PUT consists of eight faculties and some interfaculty units where more than 1000 academics educate 22000 daily, extramural and postgraduate students.

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the organiser of the EPE-PEMC conference, is the biggest faculty at PUT. Students can choose among one of four fields of study: Automatics and Robotics, Electronics and Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering and Information Science. Power Electronics as well as Control of Electromechanical Systems are some outstanding areas of research and education developed in the Faculty.

The conference will bring together PEMC professionals from around the world to discuss, reflect on and develop their ideas. The conference programme offers multiple opportunities for professional contact and development.

I look forward to seeing you in Poznań.
